Feature Idea

Maybe a bit of a silly one, but it'd be great if the amount you've played on the site was logged, as in, actually in game, like on Steam or something. So, for example, if you played two ten minute games (but won one after 7 minutes and the other after 4), it'd say '11 minutes' somewhere in your profile.

I've heard it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert, so considering I plan to play on this site for some time, I'd like to see how accurate this figure is - if I've hit an ELO of over 2350, we'll know that's quite accurate!
I didn't read about this idea for some reason. I like it, and I'll see if it's technically feasible. Not sure I can get the real time spent on each game from the database.
Surprised to see this back! By my estimation, I've played around 300 hours, and made a marked improvement from 1500 territory to 1800 territory...So it seems every 100 hours so far has been an improvement.

It'd be a neat feature, because as I've said, it apparently takes 10,000 hours to master something, and I'd like to see how rooted that is in reality.
Mind you, that 10000 hours works only if you spend those hours actively. If you, for example, just play game after game, mindlessly, without analyzing each game afterwards, it doesn't really count.
Everything takes time. To learn anything in life you have two choices: Learn the hard way, by your own mistakes or learn quicker by looking at other peoples experiences. (Imagine every tactical manoeuvre yourself, like you were the first to do it or learn the netting manoeuvres already created by others and progress quickly to the next level.)
Theory and practice are two different things. (To see it and to do it is two different things.)
I believe, to accomplish a tactic, you must play the chessboard spaces. «The activity, mobility and safety of the chess pieces are paramount. The value of the pieces comes second. » The better plan is not to collect all the pieces and then look for a checkmate, but rather to net the chess pieces to hold that initiative while initiating the checkmate manoeuvre.
There is no value in being greedy by capturing poisoned pawns or pieces. Search for netting possibilities and end the game early.
Quietly work out one tactical venture at a time and then practice it. «Visualize the venture to create the net. »
