allow me to play both sides without a new tab

We are doing chess club instruction for kids, and would like to record some moves ahead of time. So I'd like to play both sides of the game, and build a PGN which I can import and walk through on a projector. Using 'Play a Friend' and switching tabs is my current option, but a little cumbersome.

Amazing software all around!
You can do this next way:
1. Open the board editor (in tools).
2. Press "Analysis board".
I was trying to see if the analysis board saves the PGN, and I don't see that it does. Maybe choosing "continue from here", but again idk if that initial pgn information is saved.

My suggestion is to use something like
Scid vs PC - http://scidvspc.sourceforge.net/

- to make your pgn files and store games etc in a database

and since you are using a web interface I'm assuming you aren't using a personal PC when you are showing the games. So you can.

a) Use the Import game function (under tools menu) here on Lichess - prob best option for you.

b) use a portable program that doesn't require installation on whatever computer you are on (can be run from USB drive)

Lucas Chess (portable version available) - http://www-lucaschess.rhcloud.com/index

Tarrasch Chess Gui (same) - http://www.triplehappy.com/

*maybe someone has a better answer...
To save the game you can copy the PGN from analysis board and put it in the "Import game". Though it only saved the main line of the game. But it's possible to analyse and save it still.
Yeah, these are all great suggestions. I don't think I properly reviewed the Analysis Board option. It does seem to do what I want. In fact, @chesstroll_ingot's suggestion seems like the best thing, as I do generally want to record several moves.

It might be a neat feature if you could import directly from the analysis board, without the copy and paste, but maybe my use case is a bit rare.
Woops, I see how my feature suggestion wouldn't work. Since the PGN is the main line of the game, it doesn't include the starting point.
If you add the FEN code at the beggining of the PGN, you shouldn't have problems ;-)
Example:

[Event "?"]
[Site "?"]
[Date "????.??.??"]
[Round "?"]
[White "?"]
[Black "?"]
[Result "0-1"]
[FEN "r2qr1k1/pp3ppp/3b1nb1/2nP4/3N4/2N1PB2/PP4PP/R1BQ1RK1 w - - 1 16"]

16.g3 Be5 17.a4 Rc8 18.a5 Nd3 19.a6 Bxd4 20.exd4 bxa6 21.Rxa6 Nxc1 22.Qxc1
Bd3 23.Rxa7 0-1
