Public proxies are unsafe to use?

Are VPNs no longer allowed on lichess?

I just lost a game on time after a lichess restart in the middle of the game. When I refreshed the page there was the message: Public proxies are unsafe to use.
I can understand why lichess might want to restrict the use of proxies to prevent banned users creating new accounts. In which case a ban on proxies when creating accounts, or perhaps during first one hundred games, would achieve that.
"The answer is “no.” Free proxies are unsafe. They may make you anonymous online, but they come with numerous threats to your privacy on the web. Typically, proxies do not encrypt data. This means that the proxy provider can see every piece of information about you on your device"

Yeah - I wasn't really asking that - my question was why Lichess should be telling me this - and preventing me playing using a paid VPN.
Actually just checked - and seems to be working again as normal.

Anything that is free you must always ask How is it free
Now free proxies can only make money via 2 ways donations or selling your info
most likely the last one
