Hi all
On bullet chess, it seems some players e.g. Whybemad are able to often play dozens of moves with absolutely zero time penalty. A recent reddit post yesterday also saw IM Hambleton do the same here:
www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/3brg5k/aman_hambleton_plays_over_30_moves_with_just_two/
I posted a comment to this thread which was essentially:
"Yes I wonder if incurring a minimum 0.01 sec delay would level the playing field a bit more ?!"
And then I later discovered that sites like the ICC do charge a time penalty for premoves documented here:
http://www6.chessclub.com/help/premove
I posted a seperate reddit thread here about it:
www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/3bs71z/should_premoves_carry_a_tiny_delay/
In the current situation, it seems that some players seem to have a massive time advantage in a fundamental way - you can be say 20 seconds up on them, but then they know how to incur nearly 0 seconds for potentially dozens and dozens of moves.
I know this "feature" of zero time also supports berserking, but I wonder if this entire configuration of features (zero time able to be used, and berserking) are not quite right and in the spirit of bullet chess or chess in general, where if you have a time advantage, it should generally be *meaningful* and you shouldn't necessarily be at massive time odds in effect just because you are using Wi-fi etc.
My assertion is : A time advantage of say 15 seconds in a bullet game, should generally statisitcially convert into a win, if you are trying your best to premove.
Someone expressed this in my reddit thread:

There should DEFINITELY be at least SOME small amount of time deducted for a pre-move. It is a timed game of chess you are playing. You should not be able to make a move without using any time at all, that's completely unfair to be able to make moves without losing any time at all. ICC has it right, and so does KC here. What is the point of having time on the clock at all at that point? Every single time scramble would simply turn into a battle of who can pre-move faster (aka faster connection)."
And to be honest, it does seem certain players basically have massive time advantages right now in bullet chess, which is too independent of their actual playing skill.
BTW I do occasionally get a higher result than Whybemad in tournaments e.g. yesterday the Daily bullet, I came 2nd, Whybemad came 3rd but I noticed also he can berserk a lot more of course with this "feature" of zero time used.
Feedback welcome
