It is a shame 960 was replaced by two ghost pools. 960 had a small elite but at least it was not haunted like the existing 3+0 and 5+0 pools. This is clearly 'chessism'.

I'm afraid I do not agree. 960 is way less popular that 3 and 5 (check the other sites). I myself would prefer 3 and 5 pool but I do not play there because they are empty for people tend to join the pool that is already populated... 960 pool was almost always empty when it was up. The problem is that there are not enough players here, something that should be addressed with some serious promotion (I don't mean with money, but just, for example, inviting top players to visit and have a look), because this site is way better than the existing alternatives. Look, for example, chess24.com, a new site that charges you money for videos you have for free on youtube and with an extremely lousy playing interface...
Even the 1+0 pool is struggling so 960 would have no chance. In my opinion they need to have a bullet pool and a slow(er) pool and look into other styles of competition.
At the moment, the World Cup is on, so that is being blamed for poor attendance here. Personally I don't think that's likely, but we'll see when the WC is over.

I think having a 960 pool was a pretty cool idea - might need some time to grow.
