Fabiano Caruana

Fabiano Luigi Caruana was born in July 30th 1992 in Miami, As soon as he entered to chess. everyone was sured that he was a chess prodogy. at the age of 6 to age 18 he trained with. NM Pandolfini,GM Sher,IM Zlotnik, GM Chenin, GM Chukelov. He moved to madrid,Budapest,Switserland for chess training to achive a one and only goal, a professional chess carrer.
at the age of 14 years, 11 months and 20 days, Fabiano Caruana completed his final GM norm in the Saturday GM tournament in Budapest scoring 7 out of 9 rounds and becoming the youngest grandmaster in America and Italy at that time by surpassing the record of Hikaru Nakamura.

Italian National Championship
Caruana was the youngest person in the Italian history to won the National title in Italy in 2007 when he was only 15 years old.
After that he wo the same title in 2008,2010,2011.
He did not participate to the Italian national championship in 2009,2012,2014

Unites States Chess Championship
Caruana played his 1st ever united states chess chapionship in 2016 and surprisingly, he won the tournament. After 6 years he won the US chess championship again in 2022 and 2023.

Journey of Tata Steel
Fabiano Caruana got invitation to play in the Corus (modern dat Tata Steel) group C tournament in 2008. surprisingly, Fabiano won the tournament scoring a mammoth score of 10 out of 13
In, the very next year 2009, Fabi played in the Corus group B. he also had a dream run in corus B.
in the last round he met Nigel Short, the sole leader in the tournament that had scored 8 out of 12 round. it was an intense battle, until the move 47, Nigel Short was in control, but a blunder in moves 48 gives Fabiano a huge chance to win the cores B tournament and eventually at move 67 Nigel Short Resign the game.
Then, in 2010 he finally got the chance to play in Corus A tournament, which had a massive line up from the start. Lenier Dominquez, Peter Leko, Alexi Shirov, Vasily Ivanchuk,Sergei Karjakin, Hikaru Nakamura, Vishwanathan Anand, Vladimir Kramnik and the Norweigian 19 year old, that he would meet him after 8 year to compete for the world title, the final boss which is Magnus Carlsen. He scored 5.5 out of 13 round with 1 win 9 draws and 3 losses
It was until 2020 that he finally won his Tata Steel chess Title by winning 10 out of 13 beating Yu Yangi,Daniil Dubov, Vishwanathan Anand,Alireza Firouzja,Vladislav Kovalev, Vladislav Artemiev and Jan Krzysztof Duda and 6 draws.

Record Breaking Tournament
We bounce back to the year 2014 Sinquefield cup in Saint Louis. This was the strongest chess tournament in history because all of the 6 participants were 2750+ at the time. but no one could predict the outcome of the tournament.

The 1st round started with a bang as Fabiano Caruana demolished Veselin Topalov. Then respectively, he won against Maxim Vachier Legrave, Magnus Carlsen,Levon Aronian and Hikaru Nakamura ending the first half by a perfect score
The 2nd half was also want a joke. he demolished again Veselin Topalov with a Vicious King Side attack and Topalov was forced to resign the game at round 30 moves. He scored 7 out of 7 after defeating Maxim Vachier Legrave yet again and maintaining an unbelievable streak which hasn't being happened in more than 20 years. The could have win against Magnus Carlsen for the 2nd time in the same tournament, which was never heard of, but he missed a slight chance and ended up drawing the game.
After 2 more draws Fabi ended the tournament by scoring 8.5/10 which was 3 points ahead of the 2nd place which was Magnus Carlsen. He had a Performace rating of 3103 which was the unbeatable performance rating of all time surpassing the record of Magnus Carlsen (3002) and Anatoly Karpov (2985)

in the 1st half, Fabi draw all 7 games. and in the 8th round, he strucked by defeating Hikaru Nakamura. After drawing the 9th round, He defeat the ex-world champion Vishwanathan Anand, After the 11 and 12 rounds were drawn. it all comes down to the final game against Sergei Karjakin. (winner takes all)
Caruana was Black against Karjakin and played a sicilian defence to try for the win. the position was complex. for a while, it was not clear who was attacking or defending until,....... Caruana blundered, offered a draw by Karjakin immediately, due to the desperate decision form Fabi, Sergei declined the draw and ended up winning the game and the tournament. heart breaking moment to fabi, but it wasnt the end.

The line up was,

Vladimir Kramnik = Wild Card
Both Shakhriyar and Fabiano was the favourites to win the tournament. both were playing seemingly well till 11 rounds. But in the 12th round. Fabiano loss to Karjakin who was the winner of the tournament 2 years ago, and Mamedyarov losses to Ding Liren. After 12 rounds there were 5 player who had the chance to win the candidates
Karjakin and Caruana were 7 out of 12 where Karjakin had the better tie break because of the win against caruana. Mamedyarov,Grishchuk,Ding were 6.5 out of 12
in the 13th round Caruana and Mamedyarov won their games and Karjakin drew to Wesley So.
going into the final round. Caruana must be equal or should be above the result of Karjakin and Mamedyarov because Caruana had worse tied breaks than them. but at the end of the day, Fabiano Caruana won his game against Alexander Grishchuk and selected to play in the world chess championship as an American Grandmaster after 46 years.

2018 world chess championship
Fabiano Caruana was in exellent form for play in the world chess championship Magnus Carlsen. In the ery 1st round, Caruana could have press the position bye due to some slight inaccuracies, Carlsen manages to make a draw. till the 6th round the games were really balaned and ended in draw.
but the 6th round game shock the whole world. Fabiano had a mate in 30 in a deep ending where magnus had only 2 pawns and a bishop but Fabi had a pawn, bishop an a knight. the game somehow ended in a draw but, former world chess champion Garry Kasperov told that the winning sequence was so hard that no human in this planet cannot ever solved it.
after that game round 7,8,9,10 all were drawn. in the 11th round Caruana's preparations were leaked because it was accidently uploaded in youtube. where Fabi had the black pieces and the preparations were about the petrov defence. but Magnus did not have a chance to get an advantage so, it was ended in a draw.
surprisingly, final round was ended in 2.30h. as Magnus thought to win against Fabi in the rapid time control. even though, the classical rating gap between carlsen and caruana were 3 points, in rapid there was a 91 point rating gap and it clearly showed that who was the underdawg.
In the rapid time control, Carlsen seemingly won the 1st 3 games against Fabi to wi the Title for the fouth time. Game over!!!!!!

Fide candidates 2020-2021 and Fide candidates 2022
Both of these candidates weren't the best results in Fabi's carrer. he finished the tournament 4th and 5th respectively.

Fabiano Caruana had being selected to the fide candidates 2024 for the 5th time in his life

Althought Fabiano had some down fall results in the last 3 to 4 years, he had already proven that he could compete head to head against the world chess champion. So, remember his name. Fabiano Luigi Caruana.
